Rice Cell Atlas

Tiller bud

Rice tiller buds are axillary buds located in the leaf axils of the main stem. They are responsible for the production of secondary shoots, known as tillers, in rice plants. Tiller bud initiation and development are influenced by various factors, including plant age, nutrient availability, and environmental conditions. Tillers contribute significantly to rice plant productivity by increasing the number of panicles and ultimately the number of grains produced. Proper tiller management, such as optimizing plant density and timely removal of excessive tillers, plays a crucial role in maximizing rice yield potential.
